My Flesh, My Enemy

I give you an inch, but you take a mile…
I feed your need, but you grumble still!
When I think I have you under control,
You show you are crafty and untrustworthy.
So I must deny you, and hear you not!
For you do not suffer my spirit to grow.
Though you cry for gratification, I will be led by my spirit.
Though you groan in pain, you shall submit to my discipline.

What are you but a bottomless pit of want?
You are the enemy I must endure and daily overcome…
My companion in these lands, necessary for training.
Though you wish to lead, you shall follow.
And as I learn your ways, I shall be made wise.
You, who do not retain wisdom, shall be taught.
Be quiet, be still and be possessed of the Lord.
Though you wrestle continually, I shall have the victory!

  2. this is so beautiful! the struggles we have with our flesh well captured. indeed, denial with no room for dialogue is the way to deal with flesh thank you for this message.

  3. this is a deep poem dear, this flesh so, no be small thing o, but it must be subdued!… @Brume, why will you say for a lady, you champion the cause for women, there are women around you with similar skills as Ufuoma does now, women are deep as well o! *wink*

  5. Lovely piece, its a tussle for our faith, buh what I always choose to believe is that in all this we are more than conquerors,b’cos there’s grace made available to us. Inspite of all we will finish well. (Amen)

Thank you Ufuoma for sharing this poem with me, it does speak the Truth, I have recently Posted about the flesh too, I will leave a link for you to save detail here, what you shared is very True, we are it’s slave and this is why we must put our flesh to death, or we will not be perfected in Love, Jesus has set us free so we can be, we choose not to walk in the Flesh and the Spirit empowers us so we can walk in the Spirit ..
