Editor’s Pick: I Will Not Remember Your Sins

I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake; And I will not remember your sins” (Isaiah 43:25).

It is hard to believe that God made such a statement, because it seems like something He cannot do!  I mean, He is the all-knowing God…so how can he FORGET?  If He exists in the past, present and future, how can He not remember our sins?!!

As hard as it is for me to take God at His word here, I need to believe Him when He says He will remember my sins no more.  I am someone who has been continually haunted by past sins, things that I have brought to the Cross over and over, only to get home and see a remnant of the guilt still stayed with me.  If the all-knowing God can disremember my sins, surely I can forget them too.

On closer inspection of this statement, I can see the GRACE of God.  He says He WILL NOT, not that He cannot!  By this I know that He chooses not to remember my sins.  And there is a difference between not remembering something and forgetting…  When you forget, it means the memory is lost and you CANNOT remember.   However, God chooses not to recollect the memories of your sinful past.  He has filed them away in the pit of darkness that would have been your portion.  When He looks at you, your sins are nowhere to be found!  They are separated from you as far as the east is from the west (Psalm 103:12)!
