Broken – The Preview

You have recently read some very exciting web series here and we hope you have thoroughly enjoyed them. Love. Music & Dreams and Little Black Book have come and gone and now we introduce another  – ‘Broken’.

Broken is a story of a love that conquers all, from the author of AN EMOTIONAL AFFAIR and THE CHURCH GIRL story series. Here are a few excerpts:

It was probably the worst day of my life, the day my Uncle Bill got married. I was just fifteen years old at the time, but knew so much more than my age. Bill had been my initiator into womanhood, and now my teacher in the hard knocks of life. He had not only stolen my virginity; he had also stolen my heart. And now, he was moving on, leaving me to pick up the pieces.

“Of course, no one knew of our intimate relations. He had been my favourite uncle since I was a little child. I remember that I used to run to him, whenever he visited us from Lagos. He would bring gifts for me and my siblings, and would carry me on his lap to tell us his tales from living in the big city and working as a Teacher at the University of Lagos. Even then, everyone knew I was his favourite.”

Who am I? How do I even begin to answer that question? In all honesty, I don’t know who I am, I’m still finding out. I’ve stopped being shocked at what I am capable of, and decided that I’m going to be true to my real self, and whoever can’t deal with it…that’s their issue and not mine.

I am married to Openiyi Olamisan. We’ve been married a little over a year now. No kids. He is a Business Man, and I’m, well, a Home-maker. I wouldn’t say house-wife. I just don’t think that title suits me.

“When I met my husband, I was what some might call a “runs girl”. I had a string of guys I was sleeping with, who looked after my various wants and needs. I wasn’t into commitment or anything like that. Relationships for me were about what you can give, and what you’re getting in return. I gave them what they wanted, and I got what I wanted. No big deal.”

“It took my mom’s death for us to realise how much we loved each other. The day I buried my mother, I kissed Promise. I don’t even know what came over me. And I was so surprised when she kissed me back and told me she loved me too. It was like a million fireworks went off in my heart.”

“I was disappointed with myself when I finally gave in again and presented myself at Tony’s apartment, in need of a good servicing. He said he had missed me, and when I entered his arms, it was like I had returned home. I am tired of fighting who I am. I’m tired of trying to be something I’m not. I’m tired of being miserable. So, I’ve decided to just live and enjoy myself…and whatever life has to offer me.”

“With the dawning of the morning, came the realisation that I was pregnant. I know. Life’s a bitch, isn’t it? And of course, we both knew that the baby wasn’t his, seeing as we hadn’t had sex in over four months! ”

“There are no words to explain the agony I went through that night. My worst nightmare had come true. And I was afraid that it would happen again, that she would keep trying to leave me. However, I was determined to keep fighting, to keep defying her attempts to break me and make me hate her.”

“I wasn’t exactly sure what I was expecting him to say, but it certainly was not, “Get rid of it.” Just like that, no emotion, no asking me how I felt or wanted to do, no moment of contemplation. Just a command.”

“OMG! He had no plans on letting me go. I couldn’t believe how he had turned against me. Was he always this evil? How had I missed it? In that instant, I lost my mind. “You fucking bastard!!!” I yelled.”

Broken will be published here every Thursday at 10am, don’t miss out!
