Mary arrived at work to find a massive bouquet of flowers on her desk, with a big red envelope.  She was already sure who they were from, but for curiosity sake, she opened the envelope.  On the outside of the card was written in big bold lettering: PLEASE FORGIVE ME, and inside: “I can’t stop loving you…”

David had written out the chorus to the famous song by Bryan Adams on the left side.  Mary rolled her eyes and chucked the card into the bouquet, and placed them on the floor by the bin.  She had become bored of his romantic gestures.  He seemed to be playing a character in a one-way romantic movie, and she was tired of being his co-star.

“Love on the rocks, heh?  What did he do now?” Aisha couldn’t help herself, as she observed Mary from her desk.

Mary simply shrugged her shoulders.  She didn’t even have any strength to talk about him.  “It’s not that serious, abeg!” Mary replied at last, dismissing the discussion.  She began to sort out her desk.  How did all these pile up, she wondered?

Since completing her National Youth Service in January, she had been retained…
