Editor’s Pick: This Is My Commandment


Brethren, we are called to one Law, and that is the Law of Love.  All other laws are fulfilled in the true practice of this law.  And we can only fulfil the law of love, if we follow and abide in Jesus (John 15:5).

Master, which is the great commandment in the law?  Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.  This is the first and great commandment.  And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.  On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets” (Matt 22:36-40).

For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.  For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself” (Gal 5:13-14).

Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.  For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.  Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law” (Rom 13:8-10).

Even though Jesus came to show us the Way of Love, and give us His Spirit of Truth, many are still reliant on a set of rules to follow Jesus.  Many still think there is a formula to living by faith.  According to the Jesus Christians, a group I once walked with, these are the Top Forty Commandments of Jesus Christ for His disciples…
