Dear Ufuomaee,
Gd day ma. I av a questn a frnd of mine nd i were discussin abt a boy cheatin on his girlfrnd and he was like everyone has the tendency to cheat bt then i told him there is something called control bt pls ma how true is that. Does everyone have a tendency to cheat?
Dear Reader,
YES. Â We all have the tendency to sin. Â There is no sin that anyone is above. Â It is by the grace of God, sincere love and self-control that we are able to do right. Â That is why Jesus said that if you are angry at your brother without a cause, you are guilty of murder (Matt 5:22)! Â Murder is just a step away from irrational anger.
Likewise, Jesus said that if you look with lust at someone who isn’t your spouse, you are guilty of adultery (Matt 5:28). Â It is just a step away. Â With opportunity and discretion, you may give in to your rage or passion. Â So, we must always think soberly and humbly of ourselves, and not be quick to judge others, because if we fall, we would want to be pardoned (Matt 7:1-2, John 7:24, 1 Cor 10:12).
However, I must clarify that there is a difference between a repentant cheat and a habitual cheater! Â We cannot go on sinning that grace may abound (Rom 6:1). Â Self-control is a fruit of the Spirit (Gal 5:22-23). Â If we do, it shows that we are not Christ’s (Rom 8:9, 1 John 3)!
Those who are insincere will use the fact that everyone is prone to sin as a justification to keep doing what they know is wrong. Â Sincere people don’t ‘sin anyway’. Â They resist the enemy and he flees from them (Jam 4:7). Â They flee from sexual immorality (1 Cor 6:18-20) and even abstain from all appearances of evil (1 Thes 5:22).
