Something has been troubling me for a while now. I don’t really know how to put it in words, but I’ll try. A book I am reading and hoping to review by F. Remy Diederich, called “Broken Trust”, has also motivated me to look deeper into this.
There seems to be some inconsistencies in the experience of being a Believer and being born again. For one, we are told that we are born again by the Spirit of God (John 1:13, John 3:5-8), which means that we are new Spiritual creatures (2 Cor 5:17). As such, we should have new traits and abilities, which we will discover and utilize as we mature.
Jesus also told us that we will be given the Spirit of Truth, which will TEACH us all things and lead us into all truth (John 14:26, John 16:13). Then John taught that if we have this Spirit, we do not need anyone else to teach us…(1 John 2:27)
So, I have to ask, why is there such a need and dependency of teaching in Christianity? Why are most of the Believers today reliant on ministration from other Believers (Pastors), and do not seem to have the ability to hear and learn from God themselves…

Someone once asked a famous Christian whether he was filled with the Spirit. “Yes”, he replied, “but I leak”. Biblically, disciples/believers/born again/Christians are synonymous. But having been born again by the Holy Spirit, we still need teachers. Born people need to be taught to do things. It’s similar for born again people- we have to start on spiritual milk before we can get to spiritual meat. There are no first and second class Christians, just young and old ones, equal, but some are more mature than others.
